Judaism – An Owner’s Manual is a community education program designed to provide an overview and introduction to Judaism for individuals interested in Jewish life.  This course is appropriate for those considering conversion, and for students wishing to renew their connections to Jewish life and learning.  

This course provides participants with an overview of Jewish practices, holiday and life cycle rituals, Jewish thought, and history. Topics also include contemporary Jewish issues, the Jewish community, the Holocaust, and Israel and Zionism. 

Classes will begin on Thursday, October 12, 2006 and end on February 22, 2007.  The class will meet weekly for eighteen weeks from 7:15 until 8:45P.M. at Congregation Har Shalom, 11510 Falls Rd., Potomac, MD. A Hebrew class will be offered immediately following (8:45 – 10:00 P.M.) at no extra charge.  There will be no class on November 23 and December 28. 

The program is co-sponsored by the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning, Congregations B’nai Israel, B’nai Tzedek, Har Shalom, Or Chadash, Kehilat Shalom, Shaare Torah and Temple Beth Ami.

The faculty will include rabbis from the sponsoring Conservative and Reform congregations.  They include Rabbis Jacob Blumenthal, Michelle Fisher, Jack Luxemburg, Mark Raphael, H. David Rose, Michael Safra, Jonathan Schnitzer, David Spey, Paul Tuchman, and Stuart Weinblatt.  

Requests can be made for interpreter for the hearing impaired.

Fees: $180/individual; $250/couple, includes a complimentary text book. $20 registration fee.
