Boy Scouts: Either completed 5th grade, or over 11.  If the child is 10 1/2 and has never been in scouts, the troop leaders can allow them to join the boy scouts.   
Troop 1948 provides a complete Scouting experience in a Jewish context.  Scouts come from all parts of Montgomery County and represent a broad spectrum of religious observance.  The Troop is shomer shabbat v'kashrut (observes the Sabbath and the kosher dietary laws)  in all its activities so that all Jewish Scouts as well as other Saturday Sabbath observers can participate in, and benefit from, the Scouting program.  The Aims of the Boy Scouts of America are to build character, fitness, and citizenship.  This is accomplished through the indoor program (meetings and merit badges) and the outdoor program (camping and hiking).  Troop 1948 comprises young Scouts and a core of senior Scouts as well as experienced, trained adult leaders.

Hours: Meets every Sunday evening at 7 pm at Tikvat Israel Congregation

Eligibility: Jewish boy completed 5th grade or turned 11. If child is 10 1/2 and never been in scouts before, he can join boy scouts

Fees: Annual Membership Dues $50, minimal cost for activities
