Avodah: The Jewish Service Corps allows young Jews 21-26 to spend a year working on poverty issues as full-time employees in neighborhood-based organizations while living together as a Jewish community in which they study, discuss, celebrate Shabbat and learn from one another.  This program has been operating in New York since 1998 and now operates in the Washington DC area.

In our Washington DC site, placements will range from coordinating a program and teaching at a new charter high school in Southeast DC; to helping to coordinate relief efforts for workers displaced in the wake of September11; to helping private medical and legal services, food and job training, to homeless clients; to organizing low-income residents to demand a health care system that meets their needs.

Fees: donations accepted/Participants pay for some living expenses and receive a small stipend
