The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School Consortium of Greater Washington, a project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, enables Jewish learners from all backgrounds to learn about our heritage and culture in a challenging and inspiring course of study.  If you desire to add a strong foundation in Jewish learning to your daily life, then this is the place for you. 

Come study in an intellectually stimulating, pluralistic learning environment.  The sophisticated curriculum introduces the shared heritage of the Jewish people and its development into contemporary forms of Judaism.  

This is your opportunity to explore  classic Jewish sources, from Biblical through contemporary texts, to investigate issues of Jewish thought, practice, and ethics, and to advance your knowledge of Jewish history.  There are daytime and evening classes available for all adult learners including Jewish professionals, teachers, parents etc.

The Partnership of Jewish Life and Learning together with Adas Israel Congregation, Adat Reyim Congregation, Agudas Achim Congregation, B’nai Israel Congregation, the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School,  Congregation Sha'are Shalom, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, Olam Tikvah Congregation, Oseh Shalom Congregation, Temple Rodef Shalom,  Shaare Tefila Congregation, Tikvat Israel Congregation and the Washington DC Jewish Community Center are proud to sponsor the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School of Greater Washington.  We invite you to join 18,000 adults in over 60 Mini-Schools throughout the Jewish world whose lives have been changed by this internationally acclaimed adult education network.
Melton Program and Tuition

First Year: (30 weeks per year)
Purposes of Jewish Living - Explore the meaning and purpose of life from a Jewish perspective.  We present essential Jewish theological concepts as they unfold in the Bible, the Talmud and other sacred texts.

Rhythms of Jewish Living - Examine the elements making up the Jewish calendar as well as lifecycle events.  Students study the central ideas, beliefs and practices that define Jewish life.

Second Year: (30 weeks per year)
Dramas of Jewish Living - Look at the dramatic developments, experiences and issues from different periods in Jewish history, as reflected in historical texts.

Ethics of Jewish Living - Address the relationship between Jewish life and ethical behavior.  A text-based approach to Jewish ethical foundations, dealing with issues such as justice, life and death, sexuality and community.

Optional Israel Seminar - Upon completing two years of study, graduates have the opportunity to explore and study Israel with the Mini-school (we consider it the fifth class).  The narrative of the land of Israel enriches all that the Mini-School curriculum addresses.  Seminars are available in the winter and summer.


You may begin the program in the second year and take the first year's classes the following year.

Morasha classes are heavily subsidized for Jewish educators or communal workers who have made or are willing to make a commitment to work in formal or informal Jewish education or Jewish communal work for 2 years in this community.
