CHAI is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization formed in the U.S. in 1984 to assist the Israeli animal protection community in their efforts to bring about a better world for animals in Israel. CHAI participated in the process of drafting Israel's Animal Protection Law. CHAI campaigned successfully for the use of the oral rabies vaccine. CHAI provides direct support to an animal shelters (equipment, financial assistance and expertise). CHAI co-sponsors with Israel's Ministry of Education seminars for adults and programs for children in Israel and in U.S. CHAI is constructing the first Humane Education Center in Israel, named for CHAI's late Advisory Board member, Nobel Laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer. CHAI is sponsoring a research into more humane farming methods.
Advisory Board includes Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA) and  Mrs. Annette Lantos.
Publishes a newsletter called CHAI Lights.
