Shevet (troop) Gilaad is one of the Israeli scouts troops in the United States. All Israeli scouts troops in the USA operate under the Central Israeli scouts TZABAR leadership, based in New York City. The Israeli scouts in the USA mirror the ideals, ideas and activities of the scouts (Tzofim) in Israel in every aspect. The Israeli scouts movement is the only youth movement in Israel that is both non-political and non-sectarian. Shevet Gilaad is based in Rockville, MD and serves the communities of the greater Washington DC and Northern Virginia areas. 
 
Most of our activities take place at the Rockville JCC. Troop members meet once a week on Sundays from 4-6 pm, while the veteran scouts, ages 15-18, also meet from 2-4 pm. All activities are conducted in Hebrew. Some of our members were born in the USA and might not be fluent in Hebrew. However, care and help is provided in order to help them participate and enjoy the activities

The shevet currently has 100 members, 20 of whom are counselors. Children are divided by grade level - from the third to the eighth grade. Grades 9-12 consist of the “elders” or “Shichva Bogeret” and serve as counselors and in other roles. All the activities are planned and managed by the shevet members, led by the chief counselor. 

Throughout the year, the children take part in activities such as winter and summer camps, activities to support Israel, holiday parties, delegations abroad and more. During the year members also take part in activities related to Israel, its culture and history, as well as common scouting themes. The Israeli scouts in Israel as well as in the USA are part of the International Scouts movement.
