Program/Service Notes:

Mid-Atlantic Coordinator: Marian Sacks           

Recruits and sends volunteers to work for three weeks in all types of light maintenance at military warehouses and work in hospitals,  Can extend after three weeks of services.  Trips leave at specific times throughout the year.
Room and board provided Sunday-Thursday.  You are on your own for Fridays and Saturdays.  Work uniform is issued
First timers have to have a personal interview and 2 letters of recommendation.

While VFI programs are rewarding experiences, they do involve physical work in a foreign country under conditions that can be stressful away from the comforts of home. (See more details under What to Expect) 

To qualify, applicants should be :

age 17 to 70+ in good physical and mental health
(A medical clearance form is part of the application packet.) 
age 14-16 accompanied by parent 
able to walk 1 mile & climb 2 flights of stairs without difficulty or assistance 
able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds 
adaptable to new situations; enjoy meeting & working with new people
