The Darrell D. Friedman Institute for Professional Development facilitates the training of students to work as Jewish communal professionals in the fields of Social Work, Policy, Jewish Education, Non-Profit Management and Pastoral Counseling. Our mission is to help produce professionals with exceptional leadership abilities and the potential for excellence. The Institute coordinates the students' programs at Baltimore Hebrew University, with the program at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Johns Hopkins University, College of Notre Dame, or Loyola College in Maryland. The program goals are:

To provide graduates with a supportive learning environment bringing to their work a 
synthesis of Jewish commitment, leadership, knowledge and professional skill. 
To prepare a group of dedicated men and women for positions of responsibility at high 
levels of Jewish communal service.
Two year program.  Several graduates of program on the Federation staff including Sharon Doner, Judie Fien-Helfman, Henry Rosenbaum.

Requirements and Services for the Dual Degree Students;
Seminars, internships, overseas seminar with subsidies, min-missions to NY and DC, leadership opportunities, mentors, cohort, career preparation and support, Kehillah membership (networking), Free Journal/membership JCSA, Conference subsidies, DFI Scholarships, Internship Stipends, Friedman Fellowship, access to other scholarships such as Vinitsky (MLOS) or Kolker award, access to FEREP application, free membership to JCC, community events.
