The Cooperative Graduate Program of The George Washington University and the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning

The Cooperative Graduate Program is a educator training program, leading to Master of Arts in Education and Human Development, or Education Specialist for those already holding an M.A. degree. Degrees are awarded by The George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development. All courses take place at the Wilkins Avenue Campus of the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning unless otherwise noted.
The George Washington University recognizes its special opportunities in and obligations to one of the principal capitals of the world. It is a primary objective of the University to utilize its location in the Nation’s Capital in continuing the development of a great nationally and internationally oriented university.  The School of Education and Human Development offers graduate programs leading to the degrees of Master of Arts in Education and Human Development, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Arts in Education, Education Specialist and Doctor of Education.
 
In addition to the general curriculum, students may concentrate on one of the following areas:  Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Family Life Education and Administration.  

Graduates of this program qualify for a nationally valid Teacher’s License for Jewish Schools granted by the Washington Board of License.  Graduates may qualify for a Principal’s License and/or a Family Educator’s License granted by the National Board of License for Jewish Schools.

Tuition grants are made available by the generous support of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.


 


The Exceptional Scholars Trust for Jewish Education
A visionary program in the Nation’s Capital, reaches out to the Washington Jewish community to generate interest and involvement in the concerns of the 21st Century Jewish Community from a uniquely Jewish perspective.  The Exceptional Scholars Trust for Jewish Education raises relevant issues of specific interest to the Jewish community with possible solutions, based on Jewish sources.

Established in June 2000 by the College of Jewish Studies, The Scholars Trust brings to public consciousness issues such as:

War and Peace

Moral and Legal Business Practices

Ethical Dimension of Everyday Living

The Future of the Jewish Family

Diversity Within Our Religious Traditions

Bio-medical Ethics

The Trust’s activities include community-wide presentations on Jewish holidays and festivals and the Jewish life-cycle based on historical and sacred texts.  The lectures, classes and presentations are planned to cover topics common to the Jewish experience in America.

 Rabbi Yitzchok Breitowitz, Professor of Law has been the laureate scholar.  Rabbi Breitowitz is well-known for his scholarship, both general and Judaic as well as his oratory skills and outreach capabilities.  This year we widened our scope by presenting an additional laureate scholar, Rabbi Sidney Schwarz who is joining Rabbi Breitowitz.  Rabbi Schwarz is President of Panim, The Institute for Jewish Leadership and Values.  He is also well-known for his scholarship, both general and Judaic as well as for his oratory skills and outreach capabilities.

These two local scholars will provide the larger community with their unique insight and their ability to make Judaism personally relevant to virtually all aspects of modern living.

The Trust programs are offered to the community without charge and made possible through donations and sponsorships.


    Connect the community to Jewish programs and resources.
    Provide quality materials and resources to support formal and informal Jewish educators.
    Elevate the Jewish education profession through recruitment, training, and retention.

The Partnership encompasses the former programs of Jewish Experiences for Teens (JET), Hillel of Greater Washington, The Board of Jewish Education (BJE) and Isaac Franck Library.
